Early Gaudí

L’Església de Sant Pacià, built between 1876 and 1881, was designed by the architect and engineer Joan Torras i Guardiola who taught for more than 30 years at the Barcelona School of Architecture. In 1880, he gave his former pupil, Gaudí, newly out of school, the contract to design the altar, the magnificent mosaic floor, and various lighting fixtures for the chapel of the convent-school of Jesus Maria de Sant Andreu Palomar.

During La Setmana Tràgica (Tragic Week) of 1909, the church was damaged by fire and the convent was moved. The chapel then became the church of Sant Paçia. Restoration did not occur until 1986 and continued to 1991 under the direction of Lluís Brú. I hope to find out more of the story.

Here are some pictures of the floor.
